About the "Wood"
Ravenswood, established in 1984, was created by a group of guys that all worked together at a former pub in Niskayuna, named Friar Tuck's Pub. The start of Friar Tuck's was by a few guys that had all worked at the Barnsider Restaurant... our free style pour and drink preparation all evolved from there.
One of the original Rwood group was from Buffalo. We all took a RV trip to Buffalo, while planning to open, in order to visit a number of places to get ideas for decor and menu items. The bar original black and white tile floor, the pine paneling and the bar/dining room half wall divider with curtains all came from that trip.
Our famous Wings & our Wecks (Beef on Kummelwick Rolls) are both Buffalo creations.
The return trip, late at night and narrowly missing a couple of deer bounding across the NYS Thruway, was full of excitement and laughter as we talked about what we had seen and trying to decide upon a name. Ravenswood is a lake in Maine chosen by the landing of a flying finger of one of us blindfolded and laughing while the finger was wandering over a Rand-McNally road atlas opened to the New England section, at 3am that winter night. It just felt 'right' as soon as we saw it.
Our staff, some of which were also there at Friar Tuck's many years ago, are some of the best around. You'll get to know each other and become part of our extended family.
We pride our selves on offering you value, service, smiles, laughs and always strive to make you feel like
"You're Always at Home at the Wood" sm.
